Supporting the development of good snowsports instructors – Workshop
Read in DEHow does BASI use ‘reviewing’ processes to support the development of ‘good’ snowsport instructors?
This workshop will demonstrate how we use reviewing skills of teaching sessions to promote a
deeper understanding of teaching and learning. As part of BASI’s teaching courses, the candidates must review each other’s teaching. To effectively critique a lesson the instructor develops inter and intra personal skills such as, communication skills, openness, honesty, clarification of teaching values, development of a personal teaching philosophy etc. BASI uses a system to review the teaching episode and to review the reviewer (assessed at level 3 and 4). This system includes Teaching PIAs (Performance Indicator Action’s) and the TIED (Task, Information, Evaluation, Development) model. In this workshop we will show the reviewing process in action.
This workshop will be delivered using a combination of informative on snow delivery and interactive participation from the skiers.
All the deliverers are members of BASI’s National Education Team. The NET team are BASI trainers who deliver all levels of BASI training courses. They are involved in the development of BASI courses and the education of BASI trainers at the annual trainers conference.
